About Yacht Charter Journal
Yacht Charter Journal exists for one moment in planning: you've decided a week on a crewed yacht is next, and you want straight answers before you commit a six-figure sum. Where should we cruise? When? What will it really cost once the APA, VAT and crew tip are added? Which size of yacht do we need?
What we do
We're an independent editorial guide to crewed luxury yacht charters in the Mediterranean, the Caribbean and the Bahamas. We cover the questions serious charterers ask:
- What a week really costs, including the 25–40% APA, the local VAT or charter tax, delivery fees and the crew tip that headline rates leave out.
- When to go, month by month and region by region, including winds such as the meltemi and the Atlantic hurricane season.
- How cruising grounds compare, in plain trade-offs rather than superlatives.
- How the process works: brokers, MYBA contracts, deposits and preference sheets.
How we research
Tax and fee figures come from tax authorities and official sources wherever possible. Rate ranges come from current market listings and published charter terms. We quote ranges, date every page and revise pages when rules change. Read our full methodology.
We don't publish invented reviews, testimonials or ratings. We never claim to have chartered a yacht we haven't, and we don't quote named yachts' prices, which change week to week.
How we're funded
Yacht Charter Journal is reader-supported through referral partnerships with charter brokers: Boatbookings for crewed charters worldwide, and SkipperCity for skippered and bareboat sailing in Croatia. If you enquire through one of our "Plan my charter" links and later charter, the broker pays us a share of its commission. That doesn't change the price you pay, and it doesn't change what we write. Details are in our affiliate disclosure.
